Ryanair will face with the biggest strike in its history today, as pilots in five European countries are planning to walk away. That will cause cancellation of each sixth of daily flights amid high holidays season, Reuters reports.

Ryanair, which was able to avoid large scale strikes before Christmas by agreeing to recognize unions for first time in its 30-year history, cannot stop the strike now. The reason is in slow progress in negotiating collective agreements.

Ahead of strikes the largest budget air carrier in Europe cancelled 250 flights to and from Germany, 104 to and from Belgium and 42 in Sweden and Ireland in recent days.

Number of such flights exceeded 300 a day. This is the quantity of flights that Ryanair cancelled last month due to strike of cabin crew in Belgium, Portugal and Spain.

Ryanair makes more than 2000 flights per day and serves 223 airports in 37 countries of Europe and North America. So far company is not going to change its low cost airline model that made it the most profitable air carrier in Europe.
