Poland in banking on recent boom of passengers traffic, which shall help the country to turn planned transportation hub into European gateway to Asia, Bloomberg reports.

Country with the largest economy in Eastern Europe is planning to invest 35 billion zloty ($9,4 billion) into construction of large airport (45 million passengers). It is going to be the biggest construction project in modern history of Poland. As a result, the largest transportation hub in Central and Eastern Europe will be built, and it can compete with airports in Germany, France and the UK.

Planned airport will be located in 45 km from the capital. To implement the project, country will need minority outside investments. It is possible that it will be Asian partners.

Poland’s plans so far met with critics from inside and outside of the country.
