Porsche, unit of Volkswagen, will not be offering diesel versions of its cars anymore, Reuters reports. Instead the company will be focusing on hybrids and electric cars.

Volkswagen admitted that it was falsifying data on emissions from diesel engines and that has shaken auto sector and caused regulation tightening. As a result, manufacturers around the world started increasing financing of electric cars development.

Porsche, investing into electric cars more than 6 billion euro by 2022, informed about decline in demand for diesel models. Although company is not producing diesel engines by itself, the image of Porsche has suffered along with the sector’s.

Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel plans a meeting to discuss whether it is necessary to force producers to modernize old diesel engines, in order to reduce pollution. This is going to be very costly.

Next year Porsche is going to issue completely electric sport car Taycan.
