The largest chocolate producer in the world directed to East looking for growth opportunities after realized there is none in the US and Europe anymore, Bloomberg reports.

Based in Zurich Barry Callebaut AG agreed to buy Moscow-based Inforum to enter second largest chocolate market in the world.

Russian ruble fell 12% relative to Swiss franc during past year.

The step is a result of changing customers’ preferences in the US and Europe, where consumer switch from sweet products to healthier food. Swiss company Lindt & Spruengli AG sees high growth potential in such countries as Brazil, South Africa, Japan, China and Russia.

It shall be noted that ten countries, which are heavy consumers of chocolate per capita, are located in Europe. Now sweets’ manufacturers turned to developing markets where consumption is much less.

Barry Callebaut is not widely known in the world despite of being the largest producer. It makes product that such companies as Hershey and Nestle put their label on.

Inforum showed 86 million Swiss francs of sales last year. It is planned that the deal will be finished till the end of this year.
