Americans continue spending money in stores although not in such large volume as in the beginning of this year, Bloomberg writes.

Sales in October grew the most in five months. Significant growth is observed in automobile, fuel and home building materials sectors, especially after hurricanes.

Shadow to this bright picture comes from previous months data that was revised lower.

Meanwhile, economists are optimistic and assume that strong labor market and recent oil prices plunge will stimulate consumers. In any case, they will be the key driving factor for economic growth at the end of this year and in the beginning of 2019.

Attention will now be turned to holiday sales in November and December, which however might be hurt by growing prices due to tariffs on Chinese goods.

Economists surveyed by Bloomberg expect consumer spending growth at 2,8% in fourth quarter. In third quarter it grew by 4%. The world’s largest retail chain Walmart showed better-than-expected sales in third quarter and elevated yearly forecast. However, J.C. Penny recorded bigger sales decline than estimated.

Meanwhile, data shows slowdown in business investments growth.
