Number of buyers spending money during five-day weekend in the US was one million higher than expected, while many of them spent hundreds of dollars without even going out of their homes, Bloomberg writes.

Average US buyer spent $313 during mentioned period. It seems that recent investments of retailers into e-commerce were justified.

More than 165 million Americans made purchases in stores or online. But even though it is more than expected, number of buyers still lower than last year, when 174 million people shopped.

In addition, despite of higher sales, the profitability will most likely decline due to higher transportation and labor costs. Analytics also warn about further slowdown in sales amid escalating trade war and rising interest rates.

Meanwhile, today sellers have a reason to celebrate. Recent data showed that Americans are ready to spend and it is still a lot of time before holiday sales season is over.
